**Job Description**

The CMS Workflow Management (WM) Development group is designing, developing, and will commission the new DiracX-based workflow management system and associated tools and services required for data processing. This includes support for Tier-0, the prompt calibration loop, RAW data archiving, prompt reconstruction, Monte Carlo generation, data reprocessing, and user analysis. The group is also participating in DiracX development to realize the WM system on the timescale for use by CMS for the high luminosity era of LHC. Of particular importance to CMS is the interface to external resource provisioning and workflow scheduling systems like the HTCondor Global Pool of CMS.

We are looking for a scientist or engineer to participate in the design, development, testing, and commissioning of this new WM system. The developer will be part of the O(10) people WM Development group. She/he will become a member of the Dirac development community and interact with other CMS groups operating the submission infrastructure, working on data management, or preparing processing requests. The DiracX-based WM system will replace the current WMCore/WMAgent based system. Development of the new system is on a tight schedule.

The successful candidate will work in an international team of software developers and experts. She/he will be trained on CMS workflow specifics, will learn about Dirac and DiracX, and become an expert in workflow management.

**เกี่ยวกับ CMS, CERN**

The Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) is one of the main experiments recording high energy particle collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. CMS is operating a large and distributed computing infrastructure to record, process, and analyze data and simulation at petabyte scales. CMS Computing Operations handles the data processing and Monte Carlo generations of the experiment, utilizing about half a million CPU cores and a third of an Exabyte of disk space at over 60 computing centers around the globe.

Computing systems used at and between the different sites are based on Grid technologies and use sophisticated software to achieve the required high scales of transfer volumes and processing throughput. State of the art programming technologies are used for the different systems. The processing infrastructure is based on distributed state-machines that handle job creation, submission, and tracking. Most of the workflows are time critical and very important for the overall success of the CMS experiment. The uninterrupted operation of all processing, data transfers, and site services is the basis for successful delivery of centrally produced samples to the CMS collaboration. Expert operators are needed to control and run the setup. A good overview is shown in the following movie: <http://cds.cern.ch/record/1541893?ln=en>

### Job description

We are looking for one scientist/engineer at CERN to join a team of experts that monitors the health of the distributed computing infrastructure and central services of CMS. The successful candidate will operate, maintain, and enhance the testing infrastructure that assesses the readiness of sites in a quantitative way. Communication via ticketing systems and email is of high importance as CMS sites are in various time zones. The successful candidate will provide coverage during the European time zone and work with admins from the data centers around the world to help optimize resource usage, and debug site issues. She/he will be trained in all aspects of the distributed computing infrastructure of CMS and the technical details of grid computing. The successful candidate will operate time critical tasks and services and take over mission critical monitoring responsibilities. A contribution to the development efforts of the computing monitoring infrastructure is envisioned. The monitoring infrastructure for sites and services is provided by CERN and shared by all LHC experiments. It is based on Nagios, HDFS, ElasticSearch, InfluxDB, Kibana, and Grafana. Probes are experiment specific and the successful candidate is expected to contribute to maintenance, enhancing, and development of additional probes. เกี่ยวกับ CMS และ Computing Infrastructure The Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) is an experiment that investigates high energy particle collisions of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. The CMS collaboration operates a large and distributed computing infrastructure to record, process and analyze CMS data and simulations at petabyte scales. Institutes around the world at about 70 sites provide computing and storage resources to this activity.

Computer services and data transfers between the various sites are based on grid technologies and use sophisticated software to achieve the required high scales of transfer volumes and processing throughput. State of the art programming technologies are used for the different systems. The processing infrastructure is based on distributed state-machines that handle job submission and tracking. The data transfers are based on a highly performant agent infrastructure. Systems use the latest database technologies, both relational and NoSQL.

Central services use a hierarchical http cache infrastructure to provide access to alignment and calibration constants of the detector to jobs running on the grid. To check the performance of the sites, a sophisticated test suite is probing the different services of each grid site regularly and allows for early discovery and mitigation of problems. The uninterrupted service of all sites and central services is the basis for successful delivery of all centrally produced samples to the CMS Collaboration and to guarantee analysis access for all physicists to produce high quality physics results. Expert operators are needed to continually monitor site performance as workflows are time critical and very important for the overall success of the CMS Experiment. A good overview is shown in the following movie:
